Five Years, Countless Hours, and the Beauty of Black Weddings – Here’s the Story Behind My Coffee Table Book

Perfection takes time – and trust me, this book proves it.

Like so many people in 2020, my life paused when Covid hit. What was meant to be two weeks indoors turned into two months, then two years. But in that “pause,” an idea sparked, a dream I’d been holding close to my heart: creating a coffee table book that showcased the unmatched beauty, vibrance, and joy of Black weddings.

As a wedding planner, I’d spent years crafting events that felt straight out of a magazine: intentional details, emotional moments, and celebrations drenched in love and culture. But I noticed something: in most books, magazines, and wedding inspiration platforms, Black couples. Our weddings didn’t get the recognition they deserved. Where was our joy? Where were our traditions? Our luxury?

So, I decided to create it.

And here we are, five years later. Yes, five. Because creating a book like this—something timeless and perfect—takes patience. It took gathering stories, sourcing breathtaking images, curating meaningful details, and collaborating with a team that shared my vision. I couldn’t rush it because I knew what this book meant, not just to me, but to many couples, planners, photographers, and people who care about preserving the culture of Black love.

There were times when it felt like I would never get it done. Deadlines moved. Ideas evolved. And life, well—life kept life-ing. But when I look at the final book, the way every page tells a story, the way love radiates from the images… I know it was worth every moment.

This isn’t just a coffee table book. It’s a love letter.

A love letter to the couples who invite their friends and family to witness their vows. To the aunties and uncles who dance all night. To the dressmakers, hairstylists, florists, DJs, photographers, and planners who create magic behind the scenes.

I couldn’t rush a book that means so much. And now, seeing it come to life, I wouldn’t change a thing.

So here’s to five years in the making—and to a lifetime of love stories worth celebrating.

The coffee table book Black Weddings is finally here, and I couldn’t be more proud.
